A note from Wendy the artist:

My ceramic work is an attempt to create both functional and decorative pieces that reflect the beauty of the Saint John River Valley over which my studio looks.

I use both red and white stoneware clay with motifs such as fiddleheads, rhubarb, wild grapes and lupines – among the many plants which grow in the valley.

Most recently I have been throwing a series of red wine cups which are actually glazed only on the rims, to contrast with the natural clay on the rest of the cup which will absorb the acids and tannins of your wine, rendering it as pure in taste as the most exquisite and expensive variety.

Morning Sun Pottery is an independent pottery studio run by Krysta Oland in Harvey Station, New Brunswick. Reflecting the colours and textures of her lifetime lingerings alongside the Sea, Krysta works both porcelain clay and a sturdy high-fired red stoneware clay, making beautiful functional pots for everyday use.

Her focus is to bring earthy-wild and useful pots back into the kitchen. Her pieces complement the ceremony of food preparation, food presentation, and the delightful and sumptuous daily rhythm of food enjoyment. Krysta strives to create simple elegant vessels that feel buttery smooth to the touch, hold heat generously and clean well in both the soapy warm dishwater of the sink and the steaming hot scrub of any dishwasher.
